Katarina Qvarnström
Katarina was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1953. In her early teens she developed a strong interest in weaving and later in life subsequently pursued schooling in order to weave professionally. Since completing this education in 1996, she decided to specialize in Damask. Between the years of 1998-‐2000 she travelled Europe with her husband and artist, Björn Löwgren, showing her work at various textile and art exhibitions. In 2008 Katarina went back to further her education, this time in rug weaving. She says –“weaving is a craft, it is up to me to make it an art”. Katarina’s work has been shown in Switzerland, France and Canada, as well as circulated in The United States for four years, where she is currently represented at the Art Council in Rocky Mount NC. She is also a member of the Swedish Artist Association, Nordic Textile Art and The International Damask Network.
